Excursion to Northridge

During a short trip to Los Angeles in April 2015 we used the easter weekend for an excursion to the Congregational Church of Northridge, located in the San Fernando Valley, a 20 min drive from Hollywood.

It was my first visit to this beautiful building by Quincy A. Jones, one of my favorite architects. Some years ago I had seen just 2 photos and did a 3D model just guessing the sizes of the church looking at the pictures, so it was a real surprise that the inside of the church looked really exactly as the 3D generated renderings – see ‘work’ section. Recently I was slightly irritated to see one of my renderings on the church’s website, probably mistaken for a photograph, but decided to take this as an unintended compliment..

We liked the atmosphere so much that we decided to stay durig easter church service and had time to enjoy the modern midcentury style of this airy and elegant wooden pyramid. The big glue-laminated wood beams were quite impressive, and along with the simple but graceful cylindrical lights that Jones designed the only decoration. The open structure of the church rises to a skylight just below the spire, providing a wonderful light situation and creating a connection between indoors and the out.

It was nice to see that the church still is in a very good shape and seems to be a good home for a vibrant community that gave us a warm welcome on this easter sunday.

“They have retired” @ Lichter Filmfest Frankfurt

By Film, Filmfestival, Frankfurt, Inhouse production

“They have retired” is part of this year’s shortfilm section of the LICHTER Filmfest Frankfurt International, a festival showcasing an excellent and diverse program on the big screen. Our clip will be screened at 10pm on Friday, March 20 in the very nice Cantate-Saal, a special location for the screenings of all shorts in 2015.

Unfortunately neither me nor Bertram Ritter will attend the screening for the interview after the end of the program – quite a pity as it would have been interesting to have a talk about what is really going on in our latest work. But of course we’re both happy to be a part of the selection of this festival.

Desert Dust Cinema 2014 Flashback

By Desert, Film

ddc_2014_0030

During the days of the Desert Dust Cinema 2014, Lobo – our little ghosttown in the West Texas area – once again became an unique place for meeting people, sharing ideas, hanging around during daytime and watching incredible international shortfilms in the evenings.

The relaxed atmosphere is hard to put in words, but as usual, here is a short documentation of our time in the desert. A very big ‘thank you’ to all participating filmmakers and all our friends, neighbors and new guests – hope to meet you again at the next DDC.

Desert Dust Cinema 2014 update

By Desert, Film

Seven weeks before the Desert Dust Cinema 2014 will start in Lobo/Tx, the program schedule is almost complete. About 25 international short films, splitted in two programs for friday 26th and saturday 27th of september will be screened onto the outside wall of the former Lobo gas station.

All participating filmmakers are providing the rights for the screening at this uncommercial festival for free, so there’s a big “Thank You” going out to all artists. A short documentation will be going online hopefully soon after the end of the DDC 2014 on the festival’s website and on this news section too.

Atom™ @ saasfee pavillon

By Concert, Frankfurt, Music

Uwe Schmidt, the man with the uncounted number of aliases (Atom™, Atom Heart, Señor Coconut, Lassigue Bendthaus, Lisa Carbon, Erik Satin and my personal favorite The Roger Tubesound Ensemble – just to mention a very few) recently played once again in his hometown Frankfurt at the saasfee pavillon to introduce his latest release “HD”.

Atom™ already performed as a “pre-opening” act at November 11 2008at the same place, and as I have documentated both events, here are some very very short cuts of both shows.

Finally we have a fixed date for the upcoming Desert Dust Cinema: After a one year break, the third short film festival in the former ghosttown Lobo/Texas will take place friday, september 26 and saturday, september 27 2014. A precise schedule does not exist at this time, but all updates on the program for these days will be announced during summer on the festival’s homepage.

As usual, the screenings will take place outside in the evening at the former Lobo gas station. Live music will also be happening, at no entry fee. Visit beautiful Lobo if you are around the West Texas area.
