Abstract architecture exhibition

By Architecture, Exhibition, Frankfurt, Graphic design, Inhouse production, Screenprints

On 19 October 2024 my small exhibition with the “abstract architecture” fabric screen prints on stretcher frames opens – everything takes place at saasfee* satellit in Frankfurt.
The exhibition runs until 19 January 2025 and is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 2-6 pm.

Abstract Architecture 01-05
Axel Rössler, 2022
three-colour screen print series
natural-coloured organic canvas on stretcher frame
signed, edition of 9 pieces each
various formats

From the exhibition text:
The motifs of abstract architecture play with the formal language of typical modernist buildings (ca. 1920-1960), whose functionalism, objectivity and renunciation of all ornamentation heralded a new era in architecture. In a series of screen prints, Axel Rössler minimises his preference for modern architecture to partition walls and simple spatial structures, which find their counterpart in the colourful and graphic reduction of the screen printing technique. His play with linear shadows and strong colour contrasts underlines the strict orthogonality of the architecture, but at the same time breaks it up in its depiction and opens up free spaces that emphasise the lightness and transparency of the buildings, which make extensive use of glass.

Displacement Textures in Redshift

By Graphic design, Software

Since a few month I’ve changed from the Vray render system to the Redshift renderer in C4D – a good decision when it comes to flicker free animations. Here’s some test renderings with organic texture maps used as a displacement material using Redshift, render time each under a minute.

Print now – Riot later

By Graphic design, Inhouse production, Screenprints

During the last couple of years, we’ve been screen printing a lot, and now we can finally announce out loud that we just have opened our new online shop and website for all printed goodies. We are delighted to finally offer a big variety of posters, stickers and shirts on our site, and much more is planned for the near future.

At the moment, we’re not shipping outside the US as we haven’t found a system yet to send mailing tubes internationally at a reasonable price, but that might change hopefully soon. So please have a look at our brandnew colorful website right here:

The White Crow – new musicvideo for Eric Schlappi

By Film, Inhouse production, Tucson

Due to various circumstances like jobs, holiday, testing different software for greenscreen keying and also hanging around in the sun or dive bars, this new musicvideo took much longer to finish than expected. Eric Schlappi provides the opening track of his nice album “Kurald Emerlahn” – if you’re located at the US westcoast, go and see him performing at various spots in the Portland/Oregon area – his livesets with crazy modular synth equipment setups are great.

The premiere for this clip took place in Lobo/Texas during this year’s days of the Desert Dust Cinema.

The stage and surrounding for Sarah’s dance for the creatures is an almost exact replica of the Grosses Schauspielhaus -great theatre- in Berlin, a good example for German expressionist architecture in the times after the first world war (architect: Hans Poelzig). Of course it was described by the Nazis as “Entartete Kunst”, and so the famous stalactite cave looking decoration was removed in 1938. After WWII the city of Berlin took over the facility, and the building was renamed Friedrichstadt-Palast.

Software: Modeled in C4D, rendered with Vray.

Desert Dust Cinema 2018 documentation

By Concert, Desert, Documentation, Filmfestival

Now the fifth Desert Dust Cinema – our short film festival in the former ghost town called Lobo – is over. Again, these were intense days of organizing, working, dancing and hanging-around-in-the-sun.

This short documentation can only show some aspects of a special weekend for all who have been involved. A big thanks to everyone, especially to our guests from far away and our partners at “Tales from the Trash”.

Desert Dust Cinema 2018 – Save the date!

By Desert, Film

It’s festival time again! The Desert Dust Cinema, our short film festival in the former ghosttown Lobo/Texas, will happen during Labor Day weekend – that’s Friday, August 31 to Sunday, September 02 2018. As usual, we will have more information on the schedule online during summer on the festival’s website.

The screenings will again take place outside in the evening at the former Lobo gas station. Live music will also be happening, at no entry fee. If you haven’t been around, have a look at the documentation on the website and join us for this long weekend in September 2018!
